The Chantry Singers is a friendly Guildford based chamber choir, specialising in high-quality performances of imaginative choral programmes.

On Saturday July 6th, in Emmanuel Church, Shepherds Lane, Stoughton, GU2 9SJ, Chantry Singers will be joined by Guitarist Andrew Crowdy and Pianist Angelina Palmblad in a concert of American Music.

The tour will travel from South to North America, beginning with the famous "Misa Criolla" by Argentine composer Ramírez and onto one of Peru's greatest Baroque composers, Juan de Araujo. The tour makes its way north by way of a Mexican lullaby, to "El Cóndor Pasa", originally a South American instrumental piece, made most famous by Simon and Garfunkel for their 1965 track (If I Could)".

For the second half of the concert, we make our way firmly into the North, with a celebration of the music of Gershwin. "A Gershwin Portrait" includes excerpts from Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris together with his most famous songs, including "I got Rhythm", "Summertime", "They Can't Take That Away From Me", and "Someone to Watch Over Me".

Refreshments available in the interval and there will be a bucket collection for the No 5 Homeless Charity based in Guildford.

Tickets for this concert can be purchased from choir members or at Guildford Tourist Information Centre

"We very much enjoyed the concert on Sat...... the intonation and blend of voices was really good. It was an interesting programme and worked really well in that church."

"There was such a balanced sound, wonderful diction (perfect german pronunciation!) and homogeneity and commitment ....... the difficult chords of the Sanders piece were fantastic and performed so well by you all..."
