The Chantry Singers

A Guildford-based chamber choir of around 30 members, The Chantry Singers celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2013. Established by Tim Venvell (an assistant in the music department of Guildford's Royal Grammar School), the choir was initially comprised of staff, parents and other invited singers. Today they are one of the foremost chamber choirs in the area, giving high quality performances of choral works ranging from Renaissance masterpieces to music by contemporary composers. The choir specialises in presenting highly unusual themed programmes which often combine unfamiliar and slightly challenging music alongside old favourites. Recent highlights have included Vivaldi's Gloria, Brahms's Requiem, Rachmaninov's Vespers, Britten's Hymn to Saint Cecilia as well as a programme inspired by the rhythms and harmonies of jazz.

Rehearsals take place in the Royal Grammar School, Guildford, from 7.45 to 9.45 every Tuesday evening during school term, preparing for between three and four concerts per year.

Although there is no formal audition, the musical director normally likes to hear prospective members sing a few simple exercises. If you enjoy singing and would like to be a member of a choir where every singer's contribution counts, then please contact us.
